About Afavit
Association of Relatives of Victims of the Trujillo Massacre (AFAVIT).
This massacre took place between 1988 and 1994 in three municipalities of Valle del Cauca (Trujillo, Bolivar, and Riofrío) where approximately 340 people were victims of enforced disappearances, torture, and murder. This violence was perpetrated by paramilitary structures in association with entities and members of the State Security Forces. In 1992, the case was presented in the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR). It was the first Colombian case presented and resulted in a friendly settlement and an act where the Colombian state asked for the victims’ forgiveness

Acunados por el murmullo de las aguas, es casi imposible pensar que desde abril hayan desaparecido violentamente a 4 personas del Consejo Comunitario del Naya, una de ellas incluso arrebatada a punta de fusil de las manos del estado[1]. Los ejecutores de tal acción esperaban que éste fuera un mensaje de terror sólo para los civiles nayeros. Sin embargo, gracias al trabajo perseverante de la Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz (CIJP) muchos más oídos, nacionales e internacionales, han podido escuchar lo que ahí ocurría y han tergiversado las intenciones de los asesinos confesos, convirtiéndolo en una razón más para la resistencia y la defensa de los Derechos Humanos.
