On Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. the Cleveland Nonviolence Network presents "The Deadly Sonic Boom of the U.S. Military Budget, featuring Kathy Kelly, of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, via Zoom!
Kathy Kelly co-coordinates Voices for Creative Nonviolence, (www.vcnv.org) a campaign to end U.S. military and economic warfare. Kathy Kelly and other VCNV members engage in nonviolent resistance to war making within the United States, as well as direct action and solidarity campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza, Iran, and numerous countries in Latin America.
The evening will also feature poetry read by Anita Tobin and Sherrie Tolliver.
Anita Tobin
is an activist and poet. She has been active with the Hip Hop Congress since her days as an undergraduate at Ohio University. Over the years, Tobin has performed her original poems for the CNVN Annual State of Nonviolence and also for the plenary of the 2016 People's Justice and Peace Convention. Tobin relocated to Austin, TX recently.
Sherrie Tolliver
is an activist-artist. She has had a 40 year career acting, writing, directing and interpreting historical figures. Over the years, she has graciously offered her talents to CNVN for many events. At the opening plenary of the 2016 People's Justice and Peace Convention, Tolliver gave a dramatic presentation of Charlotta Bass's speech in 1952 accepting her nomination as a candidate for Vice President of the United States with the Progressive Party. Tolliver has been part of the Women In HIstory project; portraying Rosa Parks, Wilma Rudolph, Madame CJ Walker, Diana Fletcher and Jane Edna Hunter. She has performed and been involved with productions at Karamu House and Cleveland Public Theater.
