Dear friends,

The times don’t seem very good for making progress on the climate crisis. The Biden administration provided some great rhetoric during the recent COP26 meeting in Glasgow, but then came home and backtracked where it really matters, on policy decisions.

More recently, the terrible news of the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine has had the effect, among many bad effects, of distracting attention from the very important new IPCC report, which should have been a serious warning to governments and people alike.

Amidst all the bad news, we are cheered by the commitment and enthusiasm of people around the world who are working to change things, to create a better future for the planet and for humanity.

My friend, the artist Mary Kelsey, and I have enjoyed the privilege of working with some of these movements, and to have worked closely in El Chocó, Colombia, with people who are resisting the damage both to the environment and to traditional communities caused by uncontrolled mechanized gold mining.

One major project in our work was producing a book that could both bring the story of what was happening there to interested people both in Colombia and in other countries and be a tool useful in the work and struggles of the people there.

The physical book has been published in Spanish and so far is only available in Colombia. We’ve looked for a publisher here to bring out an English-language edition, but haven’t found one yet. But the e-book versions—in Spanish or English—are available wherever people have connections to download them. We have kept the price quite low—$3 USD each—which is another advantage of electronic publishing.

I’m attaching a little document which describes the book and how to order it. We would like to see this in as many hands (or computers) as possible. If you’ve already ordered the book, please excuse the repetition. We’d be grateful if you could share this information. I’m also including the Spanish version of this, in case you have people you can share this with.
