Hundreds of immigrants are being detained across Ohio, separated from their families, causing them hardship. The setting of a bond is a way in which detainees may be released from detention while awaiting their individual trial, allowing them to get back to the people and community that need them. Furthermore, according to the organization Freedom for Immigrants, those who are bonded out are eight times more likely to win their immigration case.
We need a strong team of volunteers to do this work. Lawyers are currently bogged down by doing this fairly simple but time-consuming work. By having a group of trained volunteers to prep the motions for custody redetermination (i.e., bond reduction), we can free up the immigration attorneys to do their important work of meeting with clients and preparing their legal cases to keep them from being deported. We are seeking volunteers who are EITHER fluent in Spanish OR have VERY basic tech skills.
If you are interested in the opportunity to work from home to either call detainee's family/friends or format a PDF packet, please consider attending this training.
